QPG Celebrates 5 Years

Where has the time gone?

It has been five years since the inception of QPG!

On April 2nd, 2016, Councillors Ryan Dalton and Philip Andokou, along with the support of the Queen’s Park Community Council’s Grant Panel – started organising a local Football academy for children and young people from our local Community. We were exceptionally lucky to land a sponsorship deal with Wilmott Dixon for the first two years of our exciting new projects. This eventually led to a partnership with both Everyone Active and Active Westminster and a brand-new five-year sponsorship deal with our new sponsors Planet Organic – as they opened their latest store in Queen’s Park on Salisbury Road. We even got some fantastic new kits from Kitlocker UK.

In June 2017, along with the rest of the world, we saw the awful tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire unfold before our very eyes, and were very fortunate to have had a wonderful team of volunteers we could quickly gather to offer support and care-packs to residents and survivors, liaising with the staff at the Beethoven Centre, The Al-Manaar Mosque, and the incredible team at Bay 20 in Grove.

Our projects continued to expand and so did our partnerships, working closely with local headteachers and Councillors we were able to open up a new community centre on Kilburn Lane that also hosted our football training sessions and our new breakfast and after-school club sessions. We also saw the start of our half-term and holiday programmes with Street Games UK and Nike London. We will be forever grateful for the time and effort given by all of our wonderful volunteers, past and present, some of whom have been here for the full five years.

From winning multiple football tournaments in and around West London in 2018 and 2019, to having been awarded the Healthy London Workplace Award in 2020, the past five years has created jobs for local young people, led to the creation of ‘QPG Smoothie Hub’, run by QPG footballers, supported children as they transition into their chosen secondary school, and seen the most wonderful partnerships form, through the good and the less good, including the global pandemic.

Over the past 14 months, we have delivered over 10,000 hot meals.

Working with businesses and organisations, many of whom have been around for more than 15 years, has been the most incredible experience, from Ida Restaurant, to Planet Organic, The Parlour, Active Westminster, and Groundworks, there is not a single second that we haven’t loved. QPG is a wonderful place, as it never feels like when you love what you do.

Before you know it we will be back here to celebrate an entire decade of QPG, in April 2026!

Thank you for the continued support, the donations, the food ingredients, the volunteer time, the friendly wave or smile. the good mornings, and the coaching football in the rain.

We will forever be grateful to the group of wonderful people who make all of this happen, and as always, we’d like to end with an important friendly reminder to always be kind.
