QPG Helps Celebrate the Launch of Westminster Play Streets

On Friday 23rd of August children and volunteers from QPG Community & Sports Hub joined staff from Active Westminster and Everyone Active to celebrate the launch of Westminster Council's first Play Street on Fisherton and Luton Street in NW8, as part of their commitment to open more play streets and improve the quality of sporting opportunities for children in many communities across the borough.

We had such a great time, and it was wonderful to see the new Lord Mayor of Westminster engage with the children and discuss their favourite ways to stay active and have fun. See photos below.

There was a great turn-out and children got to try everything from basketball to boxing and even had the opportunity to take part in cricket and athletics.

Every child got to go home with their very own brand new Nike football - even the weather played ball!

It was also a great way to end our summer camp programme with StreetGames, whilst ensuring that children from Wilberforce Primary school continued to be active over Summer.

We would like to say a big thank you to Max and Coreen from Active Westminster for the invitation to be part of this exciting launch day, and we look forward to seeing future Play Streets, especially around Queen’s Park!
