AN UPDATE FROM QPG
QPG would like to say 'Hello' to our brand-new partners, Moberly Sports Centre, The Two Magpies, The Felix Project, Ida Restaurant and the Parlour Restaurant in Kensal Green, NW10, and to wish everyone all the best as we continue to ease out of Lockdown.
For those of you who are new to our services, QPG started with a couple of local community volunteers providing free weekly football sessions in Queen’s Park - with the intention of it being a small weekly gathering in order to better promote healthy and active lifestyles.
The Management team are very proud of the work that QPG has done during the lockdown supporting residents over the past 14 months.
Thanks to the spirit and dedication of its young volunteers, the Queen’s Park Gardens (QPG) Community & Sports Hub has opened on Kilburn Lane, and now provides everything from Maths and Science lessons for youngsters to homework help and adult English lessons over 7 days a week, plus a whole range of free local sports.
QPG Football Academy was founded in April 2016 and since its inception has assisted with four residents becoming qualified in the areas of football coaching, as well as giving people an opportunity to develop valuable key skills in a unique classroom setting at the hub.
QPG Community & Sports Hub are working closely with nearby schools and youth organisations that are training young people as sports coaches to boost their chances of employment further down the line, this includes the FA level 1 and 2 Football coaching badges.
As a non-profit has continued to go from strength to strength and we are proud that we have been able to make a real difference in a diverse community that often gets overlooked. Prior to the lockdown, it had been a busy term at QPG, as we look to the future, and we celebrate five years of grassroots activities for local residents.
Finally, we would like to give a special thank you to the staff and teams at Wilberforce Primary School, United Learning, Moberly Sports Centre, Active Westminster, Team Westminster, Ida Restaurant, QP Reformers, and all of the team at Planet Organic UK for their support.
In the meantime, we are continuing to deliver hot food and care packages with the support of Ida Restaurant, The Parlour NW10, and The Felix Project to residents in our community who continue to have to shield and preparing for our future summer and autumn activities.
Finally, some unexpected good news - QPG has won two awards -
the Healthy London Workplace award from the Mayor of London's office, and the Corporate Vision Education and Training Award for the Best Community Youth Engagement Organisation in London!
This is a wonderful team effort and reflects our wonderful community partnerships and resilience.
We have just partnered with the Bristow Partnership, offering new jobs in our community to local young people during the coming months, and we can’t wait to get advertising soon.
We hope that you all stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again, in the coming weeks. Why not follow us on social media?
